Dirt Road.

A couple of weeks ago I somehow got really lost on the way back from Oklahoma City and the sun was setting and I was on some dirt road (like I said, I was really freaking lost). Well anyways, I was going 80 down this dirt road and rocks were flying everywhere and my car was bouncing on every which way of the road and I had my phone up trying to capture the sunset. The sun was doing this really cool thing where it was barely touching the clouds and it looked like the sun was kissing the clouds. Not like in a gross way, but kind of like a mother kisses her son’s forehead–something tender.

It was so beautiful that I had to stop right in the middle of the road. There was an explosion of dirt behind me and it smelled like a lake outside. The sun had already finished kissing the cloud by the time I got my phone back out and this is what happened:

 sunset

Needless to say, well…I didn’t have a lot to say at that point. God took over from there and told me one thing that meant 1000 things: “You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.”

You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.

This entire summer, in fact, my entire life, I had heard that verse over and over and it was like Jesus finally yelled at me in that moment in the middle of that dirt road somewhere in Oklahoma and told me this:

You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.

God made life a gift and He made it incredibly beautiful.

He made the goosebumps you get when you hear a beautiful song on the radio.

He created the smell of bread (which is altogether beautiful).

He created coffee beans and created the moment that the chemicals in your brain interact with the coffee in order for you to write that paper you so badly procrastinated on.

He created the moment you’re at a concert and the bass drops and every single body in the area hits the ground and your knees become weak because of the power of humans around you, and with every beat of your heart and with every breath you take, Jesus whispers “I love you”

He created sweat glands and the sound of your feet hitting the dirt as you jog around the lake at midnight because you failed that test and don’t know what to do besides run.

He created the overwhelming joy you feel when somebody you love and have loved for so long says “I love you too.”

He created the happiness that makes you nearly dizzy when you lay down at night and think about how well everything is coming together and when you realize that everything will be okay.

He created the panic and sadness that makes you nearly sick when you lay down at night and think about how everything is falling apart, and within those moments, after the release of each breath, He whispers “I love you. There is no flaw in you.”

He created tastebuds, sunflowers, rubber trees, puppies, guppies, newts (haha), thumbs, the veins in leaves, nitrogen, E minor, water vapor, peppers for salsa, avocados, CHEESE FOR QUESO, veins that resemble rivers, teeth, roots, the brain that resembles a huge pink cloud, arm muscles that allow us to hug, hugs that fit perfectly, grandmothers, grandpas, best friends, mothers, fathers, uncle Steve who isn’t actually your uncle but has come over to play poker with your dad every Wednesday since you were born,

You.

Me.

Us.

He has created us. And He has created life. He makes no mistakes. Jesus is in control of it all. Jesus has allowed you to read this post and within the time that you’ve read this, under every breath you take, Jesus has whispered “I love you. There is no flaw in you.”

And through all of this beauty and pain and joy and laughter in life, we are God’s most beautiful creation. He spent the MOST TIME on us.

So what do we do from here?

There is no flaw in you. Remember that with every breath you take. The King of the Universe created you. There is no flaw in you.

You’re scared. Why are you so scared? Stop being paralyzed. Stop swallowing your words. Stop caring what other people think. There is no flaw in you. Wear what you want. Play your music as loud as heck. Go out for a drive at midnight and forget that you have school the next day. Stop waiting for Friday. Live now. Do it now. There is no flaw in you. Stop apologizing for everything you do. Take risks. Love people like crazy. The KING OF THE UNIVERSE loves you with such a love that our minds cannot contain it. This life is a gift God has given you. God has given us boundless, incomprehensible grace.

let’s celebrate God’s grace with this life.

There is no flaw in you. Live fearlessly.

Live vibrantly.

And with every breath we take, with every echo of a heartbeat through our chest, Jesus whispers:

” You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.”
